SUMMARY:Story Time
DESCRIPTION:This weekly program is geared toward children ages 0–5 and their caregivers. You’re encouraged to arrive between 10:00–10:15 AM to give little ones time to get settled. We’ll begin with about 10-15 minutes of songs\, poems and stories\, followed by free play and art activities designed to support early learning. \nStory Time is essential for building literacy skills—it fosters language development\, imagination\, and social-emotional growth. The program wraps up at 11:00 AM. \nLook for us in the Community Room downstairs\, or\, if the weather is nice\, we may be outside in the backyard. \nPreregistration is appreciated but not required—drop-ins are always welcome! To sign up\, call the library at 802-875-2277 or email Carrie at youthlibrarian@whitinglibrary.org.

SUMMARY:Virtual Author Talk: Lush Lyricism and Intimate Confessions with Miranda Cowley Heller
DESCRIPTION:REGISTER FOR LIVE EVENT HERE: https://libraryc.org/whitinglibrary/147455/register \nWATCH RECORDING AFTER EVENT HERE: https://libraryc.org/whitinglibrary/archive \n  \nOn April 22 at 2 PM\, join an online discussion with award-winning and bestselling author Miranda Cowley Heller as she takes us on an intimate journey through the life stages of a woman in her new poetry collection\, What the Deep Water Knows. Delicate\, yet exceedingly raw\, these poems will transport you as vividly as any work of fiction. \n  \nIf I could fly backward\, I would. \nTo the safety of branches\, to the time \nwhen my heart still raced for you\, \ntwelve hundred beats a minute. \n  \nIn poetry that is at once bold and lyrical\, affecting and devastatingly frank\, Miranda Cowley Heller takes us through childhood\, marriage\, motherhood\, and beyond. Suffused with the natural world and the landscape of Cape Cod\, where many of the poems are set\, What the Deep Water Knows contemplates love in all the seasons. \nRegister now to celebrate National Poetry Month with this graceful new poetry collection. \nAbout the Author: Miranda Cowley Heller was raised in New York City and Cape Cod. Her debut novel The Paper Palace was a number one New York Times bestseller in the US\, a Sunday Times bestseller in the UK\, and was longlisted for the Women’s Prize. She has worked as a senior vice president and head of drama series at HBO\, developing and overseeing such shows as The Sopranos\, Six Feet Under\, The Wire\, Deadwood\, and Big Love\, among others. This is her first poetry collection.

SUMMARY:Earth Day “Makedo” Cardboard Art Workshop with Local Chester Artist Kari Storm
DESCRIPTION:Join us at Whiting Library for a special hands-on art program featuring local artist Kari Storm\, whose sustainable 3D cardboard art exhibit—inspired by The Lion\, the Witch and the Wardrobe—will be on display during the program. Kari will share her creative process and show how everyday cardboard can be transformed into imaginative\, three-dimensional art. \nIf you can imagine that a cardboard cereal box can be something other than “just a box\,” then you’ll earn your license to “Makedo”! \nThanks to Kari’s generous donation\, the library will be adding Art Shaped: Sustainable 3D Art Projects to Kickstart Children’s Creativity by Darrell Wakelam and a Makedo Discovery Kit to our Library of Things. After the program\, families will be able to check out the library’s new Library of Things “Makedo” cardboard construction tools—made for kids to safely cut and connect cardboard to begin making 3D cardboard art at home. \nDuring the workshop\, kids may create a cardboard mask to take home. Anyone ages 7 and up is invited to participate. RSVP by clicking this link to reserve your spot at the table!  \nThis Earth Day program inspires creativity\, sustainability\, and imaginative thinking using low-cost\, readily available materials. \n📅 Wednesday\, April 22\, 2026\n 🕒 3:00–4:30 PM\n 📍 Whiting Library \nRSVP\, space is limited.
