SUMMARY:July 2021 Book Club
DESCRIPTION:The Whiting Library Book Club monthly discussion for July is being held in person at the library AND live on Zoom. The discussion will take place at 3pm on Wednesday\, July 21st\, 2021.  The book pick for July is The Martian by Andy Weir. This book was nominated as one of America’s best-loved novels by PBS’s The Great American Read. Here’s a blurb: \n\n“Six days ago\, astronaut Mark Watney became one of the first people to walk on Mars. \nNow\, he’s sure he’ll be the first person to die there. \nAfter a dust storm nearly kills him and forces his crew to evacuate while thinking him dead\, Mark finds himself stranded and completely alone with no way to even signal Earth that he’s alive—and even if he could get word out\, his supplies would be gone long before a rescue could arrive. \nChances are\, though\, he won’t have time to starve to death. The damaged machinery\, unforgiving environment\, or plain-old “human error” are much more likely to kill him first. \nBut Mark isn’t ready to give up yet. Drawing on his ingenuity\, his engineering skills—and a relentless\, dogged refusal to quit—he steadfastly confronts one seemingly insurmountable obstacle after the next. Will his resourcefulness be enough to overcome the impossible odds against him?” \nPlease feel free to join the group\, all are welcome! If you need a copy to read\, Whiting Library has copies ready to lend. Just give us a call or shoot us an email to reserve your copy. \nIf you have any questions or would like to get on the email list for the Book Club\, please contact Deirdre at the library. You can email whitinglibrary1@gmail.com or call 875-2277. \n  \nThe Zoom Meeting login information is here: \nTopic: Whiting Library Book Club\nTime: April 20 2021 06:00 PM Eastern Time (US and Canada) \nJoin Zoom Meeting\nhttps://us02web.zoom.us/j/81900041488 \nMeeting ID: 819 0004 1488
