This event has been rescheduled for Saturday\, November 18 at 1 p.m. \nThe history of what and how we eat encompasses everything from the prehistoric mammoth luau to the medieval banquet to the modern three squares a day. \nFind out about the rocky evolution of table manners\, the not-so-welcome invention of the fork\, the awful advent of portable soup\, and the surprising benefits of family dinners – plus some catchy info on seasonal foods. What’s the story of chocolate? Why do the Irish eat corned beef and cabbage on St. Patrick’s Day? Who invented lemonade? Why are turkeys called turkeys? And what are sugarplums anyway? \nThis talk is free\, open to the public\, and accessible to those with disabilities. DESCRIPTION:This event is canceled on Friday\, November 10 as the library is closed in observance of Veterans Day. \nKids looking for a fun opportunity to dive into the wonderful world of Pokémon are in for a treat. With this group\, students can enjoy the camaraderie and educational opportunities in person at Whiting Library. But this is also a perfect opportunity to let the learners be the teachers and believe me\, Pokémon players will love to bring adults and fellow students into the game. \nAfter School Pokémon Club will meet once per month for an hour\, participating students have access to tools to learn how to play the Pokémon Trading Card Game and other fun activities and resources\, students should not bring valuable Pokémon Trading Cards or ones they are not willing to lose in a trade. \nGames are an essential component of the library. Information presented in new formats\, that encourage critical thinking and problem solving\, and games that encourage social interaction among peers are just a few of the reasons to consider joining the Whiting Library After School Pokémon Club.
