SUMMARY:The Librarians Film Screening and Discussion
DESCRIPTION:Librarians across the U.S. examine how book review policies are shaping their communities. \nFrom Oscar-nominated Director and Producer Kim A. Snyder (“Death By Numbers\,” “Newtown\,” “Us Kids”) and Executive Producer Sarah Jessica Parker\, “The Librarians” takes viewers from Texas to Florida and beyond\, where local libraries have become unexpected battlegrounds in a national struggle over parental control\, intellectual freedom\, and democracy itself.  Sparked by the controversial “Krause List” in Texas\, which targets 850 books centered on race and LGBTQIA+ stories\, the film takes a deep investigative dive into the escalating movement against book banning. The film captures the courage and resilience of the everyday heroes\, librarians\, as well as concerned parents and students flanking them\, who have become first responders in the fight for the freedom to read\, standing defiantly against censorship at all costs. \n“The Librarians” will debut on INDEPENDENT LENS on February 9\, 2026\, at 10 p.m. ET on PBS and the PBS app (check local listings).  \nFor more information\, visit Independent Lens.  \n Filmmakers: Kim A. Snyder (director/producer)\, Janique L. Robillard (producer)\, Maria Cuomo Cole (producer)\, and Jana Edelbaum (producer)

SUMMARY:Tales to Tails: Read to a Dog!
DESCRIPTION:Kids are invited to boost their reading confidence by reading aloud to a gentle\, trained therapy dog named Orla. Our Tales to Tails program offers a calm\, playful\, and nonjudgmental space where young readers can practice their skills\, build fluency\, and enjoy the company of a four-legged listener. \nReading to a dog makes learning feel like play which is essential to literacy development! Through play\, children engage their imagination\, build language skills\, and gain the confidence they need to become lifelong readers. \nPerfect for emerging and reluctant readers\, because dogs make the best audience! 📖 \nEach child may sign up for a 15-minute reading session with Orla during the program hour. \nKathleen Karl\, a registered therapy dog handler and seasoned educator with over 20 years of experience helping children become successful readers\, will be on hand to support young participants. Kids are welcome to bring their own book or choose one from the library. \n📅 When: Saturday\, February 28\, 2026🕥 Time: 10:30–11:30 AM \n🔖 Reserve your reading time with Orla by contacting Carrie King at youthlibrarian@whitinglibrary.org or calling 802-875-2277.
