Adventure Begins at Your Library! Join in the fun of our Summer Reading Challenge!

Discover fun events and programs for kids and their caregivers through the 2024 Summer Reading Challenge “Adventure Begins at Your Library.” Plus, The Nature Museum will once again offer an incredible summer long series of nature programs in the library’s backyard. Connect with the Whiting Library this summer and renew the love of reading, learning, and community.

Visit the library in June to sign kids up for the Summer Reading Challenge! Then stop by the library weekly throughout the summer for spectacular Nature Museum events plus to check out more great books in order to accomplish the kids’ Summer Reading Challenge.

Read books, e-books, graphic novels or magazines; or listen to an audiobook – it all counts! Kids who share their Summer Reading Challenge success stories with Carrie by July 31 will win extra raffle tickets to win the grand prizes and a free ice cream cone from Southern Pie Café! Completed reading challenges reported to the library, library books returned and more books checked out will also earn extra raffle tickets for more chances to win grand prizes!

Keeping close track of the time or materials read on your Summer Reading Challenge Log is encouraged but book logging is not required to participate. There are a myriad of fun reading challenges to choose from at the library.

Summer Reading Challenge Raffle prizes will be available to pick up starting the week of August 15th. A Whiting Library Patron’s name, email address or phone number is required to enter the raffle prize drawings so winners may be contacted. You do not have to be present at the drawing to win a raffle prize.

Summer 2024 Nature Museum Programs will be held Wednesdays at 2 PM (TO BE DETERMINED)!

Starting on June 28th for 7 consecutive Wednesdays until August 9th, at 2 PM an Environmental Educator from The Nature Museum will introduce children of all ages to the wonders of the natural world. These events will be held in the backyard and participants may sit on picnic blankets in the backyard or bring out folding chairs from the library. These are truly special programs that you will not want to miss.

These programs aim to be engaging and highlight topics related to the unique ecology and landscape of Northern New England. Geared towards youth ages Pre-K through elementary grades, all are welcome. Programs will be 45 minutes long with dedicated time for a story reading and any nature-related questions you may have for our expert educators. These programs will be mostly outdoors on good weather days and indoors on bad weather days. Join us to unplug, discover, and learn!
