Whiting Library’s schedule of events is changing to serve you better!

After listening to community feedback, we are adjusting programming times accordingly.

  • Playtime: Whiting Library offers a weekly drop-in playgroup each week, and this event is moving to Tuesday mornings from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Please help your child develop skills to learn to read through free and guided play using our collection of toys and early literacy materials. Toys and activities provided are recommended for ages 0-5.
  • Storytime: Weekly Story Hour is moving to Wednesday mornings at 10 a.m. Enjoy books, rhymes, and songs that build on practices that prepare children to learn to read! Storytimes are designed for families with preschool-aged children, but all ages are encouraged to join in the fun!
  • School Age Gaming: Our monthly Pokémon gaming club is expanding to a weekly open-play event. Join us every Friday at 3 p.m. for an hour of video and board games after school!

By changing these programs, we are now able to offer these new ongoing programs:

  • YA Games for Kids 13 and up. We offer this weekly open-play gaming event on Tuesdays at 3 p.m. We’ll have some games available, but feel free to bring your own game to share.
  • Adult Crafternoon: Cookies, Coloring, and Conversation. Drop by each Friday from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. to unleash the artist within! Join us at the Camden Branch for crafting and fun. Grab a friend, sit back, and have a good time. We will provide refreshments, craft materials, coloring books, and colored pencils; you bring the conversation. If you want, bring a craft you are working on or try something new!
  • Page to Screen Film Series. This is a monthly book chat and film screening. Join us on Wednesday, January 17, at 1:30 p.m. to watch the film “The Marsh King’s Daughter,” based on Karen Dionne’s book. This event will take place each third Wednesday of the month.

A few more regular programs are in the planning stages, so check our online calendar for updates. On our calendar, you will find numerous one-time programs for children and teens, parties and special events, craft programs, movies, lectures, and more!
