The Whiting Library is seeking a new Library Director in Chester, Vermont

Full Time  – 32 Hours/week

Compensation:  $40,000 to $50,000 annually depending on experience

The Whiting Library is seeking a Director to provide exceptional customer service in our library serving the communities of Chester and Andover, VT.  We’re looking for a community- focused, creative professional who will work closely with the library team to help grow our Library programs and services. Come to Chester and work with talented and enthusiastic colleagues and Trustees; connect with and serve a supportive, engaged community; guide an established library through new and exciting changes and challenges; and enjoy each day spent in our beautiful Historical building and “soon to be improved” outdoor space.

The Director works within the library with activities, developing and sourcing programs and up-to-date resources. The Librarian ensures that all patrons of the Chester Whiting Library are well-serviced by a vibrant library space and a wide range of resources, activities, and other offerings that respond to community needs and promote reading, literacy, research, curiosity, well-being, etc.

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in library and information from an American Library Association accredited program, or similar discipline strongly preferred OR Bachelor’s degree in any discipline and Vermont Certificate of Public Librarianship obtained either before or within two years of employment. Two years public library experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of public library practices and procedures; library technologies (Our library is a new member of theVermont Organization of Koha Automated Libraries (VOKAL), a project of the Green Mountain Library Consortium dedicated to creating a shared catalog and Integrated Library System), common software applications; and the working knowledge of the laws, regulations, and departmental policies pertaining to library services.
  • Ability to establish good rapport with patrons; pay attention to accuracy; work with frequent interruptions in a busy environment; maintain effective working relationships with fellow employees, other organizations, and the public.

 

  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both verbally and in writing; handle multiple tasks, determine priorities, and meet deadlines; maintain accurate and detailed records; recognize library priorities and work cooperatively and collaboratively to support their accomplishment.
  • Ability to work remote and off site when necessary.
  • Familiarity with library management systems.
  • Skills: Organizational/planning, writing, interpersonal/collaborative communication, leadership, resourcefulness, and discretion; computer skills that encompass effective use of word processing, spreadsheet, presentation, email, social media, internet browser, and library software. Be a friendly “People” person!

Hours: 32 hours per week.  Shall be on premises all hours that the library is open.  Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday – 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM, Saturdays – 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM

Benefits:  Paid Time off after 6 months, 10 Paid Holidays, Stipend toward Health Care.

Pay range: Hourly rate depending on qualifications.
